Gummy Bear Experiment: Exploring Osmosis in Action
In this hands-on science experiment, the boys investigated what happens to gummy bears when placed in different liquids: plain water, salty water, and sugar water. The students made predictions about the outcome, and then observed the changes over several days. As we watched the gummy bears in the water, we noticed they absorbed the liquid and expanded in size. This occurred because the gummy bear, which contains very little water, drew water from the surrounding bowl. This process, called osmosis, caused the gummy bears to grow larger as water moved into them. In contrast, the gummy bears placed in salty water shrank. This is due to reverse osmosis, where the higher concentration of salt in the water pulls water out of the gummy bear, causing it to shrink. Check out the photos below to see the boys in action as they explored this fascinating experiment!
Creating Crowns for First Holy Communion Preparation Mass On Friday, we made beautiful crowns to wear to our First Holy Communion Mass on Sunday. Last week, Father Joseph visited us to talk about the Jubilee Year, a special time that occurs once every 25 years. He explained that the Jubilee Year is a time for celebration, reflection, and renewal—an opportunity to repent, forgive, rethink, and restart. It’s a time to come together and embrace these meaningful moments of spiritual growth.
Ms. Carolan's 2nd Class: October
October has been a very busy month for 2nd Class already. The boys have had a trip down to St. Anne’s Park for a nature walk as part of our school fundraiser. We learnt about lots of different trees, plants and animals that can be found in St. Anne’s Park. Once we arrived back to school we created some leaf rubbing art using some of the colourful leaves that we collected. All of the boys had a great day!

2nd Class Autumn Nature Walk
Our class are learning about Autumn and trees native to Ireland. As part of this, we went on a nature walk to investigate the different trees and how they are changing with the season. We collected lots of pine cones, acorns and lots of beautiful colourful leaves. We used the leaves we collected and crayons to create some lovely art when we got back to the classroom. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had a great time!
