Green Schools
Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland).
This is done through engagement in whole school projects focusing on themes such as litter and waste, water, energy, travel and global citizenship. Flags are awarded for the work carried out in these areas.
In St. Brigid's BNS we endeavour to follow the Green Schools ethos. The Student Council regularly carries out spot checks in classrooms to ensure there is plenty of recycling and reusing going on and as little waste as possible.
Every year we participate in the National Spring Clean Programme. Each class has responsibility for collecting waste and removing rubbish from surrounding roads in our parish.
As an active school we also promote sustainable methods of travel and many of the boys walk or cycle to school.
