Athletics
The summer sunshine can only mean one thing in St. Brigid’s sporting calendar, the arrival of the Athletic season. Each year, boys are given the chance to experience an array of sports they may have previously never tried. Shot putt, long jump, hurdles and high jump to name but a few. It is incredible to see how the boys adapt to new athletic disciplines and have frequently gone on to compete at a high standard for the school. The thrill of trying something new, combined with the fearlessness of youth means athletics in St. Brigid’s is greeted with an air of excitement and exuberance. You’ll never know what you're capable of until you take the first step and give it a go.
Santry athletics is the pinnacle of Primary schools’ athletics. The best athletes across Dublin all descend on Morton Stadium to compete for Bronze, Silver and Gold. In St. Brigid’s the trials are eagerly contested but it is the participation that holds the real key to success. Every boy from 4th – 6th class are encouraged to take part and do their best. Try something new. Give your all. Enjoy it. Those small few lucky enough to qualify, proudly represent our school at the Santry Athletics meet. For several years now, we have returned home with medals in shot putt, relay races, high jump, long jump and long distance. But most importantly, we are welcomed back with smiling faces, hugely proud of the effort we have put in.
