6th Class

We’ve had a great month of interesting work this month. The boys have shown huge interest in our unit on World War II, and they produced some amazing projects which focused on different battles of World War II. We had a Museum Day in our classroom, where the boys got to examine different artefacts, and tried out a virtual reality tour of Anne Frank’s House. We’ve also completed the investigation into our Science Blast question - “Does our environment affect our focus?”. Here, the boys can be seen trying out if our work ethic and focus is different when the environment around us is messy. Some really interesting insights and results! We also had a great morning over in St. Paul’s to watch their production of “The Wedding Singer”

February has been another busy month in 6th class! We have been busy preparing for Science Blast in the RDS! We have been testing our question ‘On what surface does a ball roll the furthest?’. We look forward to presenting our investigation for the month. We also got to enjoy some pancakes for Pancake Tuesday!

As part of our explanation writing, the boys created their own products which they got to pitch in our ‘Dragons Den’ activity. The boys got to act like dragons and question each other on their products. The boys got to invest in the products using raffle tickets! We definitely have some budding entrepreneurs in 6th class. Well done boys!

Mr. McNamara's 6th Class- January

We’ve had a productive month to kick off the Start of Term 2. Firstly, we’ve been busy trying out some new Maths Games to consolidate our learning across Maths topics. Here we learnt two new games which enhanced our learning of directed numbers. We’ve also been exploring the spelling of words through morphology. And lastly, we started exploring our Science blast question “Does our environment affect our focus?”. We brought in comfy clothes and spent the day doing some regular school work in a comfortable and cosy environment. The results were really interesting!

January was another busy month in 6th class as we settled back into school after the Christmas break. The 6th class boys were a credit to our school as they showcased their Christmas show to delighted visitors at our recent open day. Many 6th class boys also helped out showing visitors around and helping on the night in the different rooms. Well done boys! The boys also learned how to make St. Brigid’s Crosses this month. They had lots of fun getting to learn this great skill. They were able to not only make crosses as a gift for visitors on Grandparents Day, but they also were able to teach this skill on the day! The boys had a great time showing their grandparents around our classroom and showing them the great work we have done this year! Grandparents Day 2026 was a special memory for both the boys and their grandparents!

The boys were very proud of their artwork on display at the School Art Exhibition, and really enjoyed viewing the artwork of the entire school. We’ve been continuing to expand our mathematical knowledge through playful learning, and the boys have been responding very well to this approach while also achieving success. We have also been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes on our Christmas production of Shrek which we are very excited about performing next month. Keep up the good work boys!

We’ve had a very busy month in 6th Class. We completed our annual sponsored walk and doubled this with a guided tour of Casino Marino. The boys really enjoyed the tour and this excursion consolidated more learning on our unit on Buildings. The boys were a great help hosting the annual Maths Carnival for the whole school and really were great role models. They’ve also been busy creating some magnificent artwork, some of which will be showcased at our upcoming Art Exhibition. Here’s a sample of other artwork which we completed recently, focussing on the Element of Art “Line”.

Mr. Mooney's 6th Class- October

6th class have been extremely busy during the month of October. We visited Casino Marino and got to learn all about its unique history. The boys heard lots of different stories about the house and the people that lived and worked there. It was fantastic to put our learning from the classroom into real-life. The boys also excelled this month during Maths week. The boys led the maths carnival in our school hall. It was great to see the older boys teaching activities and games to the younger classes. Well done boys on making Maths week so enjoyable. Back in the classroom, we solved lots of fun maths problems including the ‘Bridge crossing problem’ which was a lot of fun!

Mr. McNamara's 6th Class- September

We’ve had a great few weeks in 6th class settling back into school. The boys have spent a lot of time carrying out various Team-Building activities, while also engaging with playful learning activities and developing a strong work ethic for the year ahead. We were lucky enough to visit the Archaeological site in our local St. Anne’s Park, where we had a fascinating insight into the history of the house that once stood there. We got to see many interesting artifacts and learnt a lot of interesting history about the site. Well done to the candidates who held a very strong campaign for this year’s Student Council, and congratulations to this year’s Class Representative, Max Memery!

Mr. Mooney's 6th Class- September

September has been a busy month as we settled back into school. We have spent the last month working on building a positive classroom dynamic by engaging in team-building games and activities. The boys have had great fun with these activities throughout the month! The boys also visited the Guinness family archaeological dig in St. Anne’s. This provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about their local history. The boys are currently writing a recount from the perspective of a person in the Guinness family house using all the information they have gathered. Lastly, to coincide with our student council elections, the boys have been learning about how elections work in Ireland. We then had a debate amongst our student council hopefuls, before the boys placed their ballot paper in our election box. Congratulations to Shay Duggan, our student council representative for 2025!
