Active School |
St. Brigid's BNS prides itself on being an extremely active school and we are always striving to raise our standards and awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Partnerships Our school works with local sports clubs to ensure the boys have an active and healthy lifestyle.
Below is a sample of our school's activities:
Physical Education The importance of physical education in St. Brigid’s BNS is of paramount importance. All classes in the school are allocated one hour of PE a week along with numerous other opportunities to be physically active. The five different strands of Games, Athletics, Gymnastics, Aquatics, Dance and Outdoor and adventure activities are all taught in each class throughout the year. Running initiative As a whole school we undertook a running programme called Run to Europe Challenge. This is an initiative in which all children in the school are encouraged to partake. The task is simple. The boys from each class must run, jog or walk laps of the school yard. For every lap one boy runs that represents one kilometre. The challenge is to run to the cities in Europe. Of course we are starting in Dublin with our first destination being London. It’s only 597 km. It’ll be interesting to see all the brilliant cities the boys will run to! Here are some of the classes in the school "running to Europe". It was so much fun: Dublin stars Brian Fenton and Brian Howard joined a few of the classes running to Paris. |
